"We become neighbors when we are willing to cross the road for one another."

– Henri Nouwen

“We become neighbors when we are willing to cross the road for one another. (…) There is a lot of road crossing to do. We are all very busy in our own circles. We have our own people to go to and our own affairs to take care of. But if we could cross the road once in a while and pay attention to what is happening on the other side, we might indeed become neighbors.” – Henri Nouwen, Bread for the Journey

Reflecting on Our Journey of Change: A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Community!

As we stand on the precipice of new beginnings and reflect on the journey we’ve undergone to implement meaningful changes in our community, it’s important to pause and express our deepest gratitude.  Better late than never.

The road to reform within our homeowners’ association has not just been a series of tasks to check off – it has been a transformative adventure (politically correct and non-offensive descriptor) but in all honesty most of you reading this would agree the word “dumpster fire” is more accurate, filled with challenges, learning experiences, but, perhaps most importantly, the deepening of community bonds.

The journey began with an honest assessment of what was not functioning optimally in our association. It took courage for all involved to confront and endure the outdated processes, the unwieldy bureaucracy, and the slow response times that plagued our ability to get things done efficiently. Recognizing these issues was the first step towards a substantial change.  This point is incredibly important to hold in our minds because we must never return back to that place.  Change is messy and scary but necessary if we want our community to stay relevant.

Recalling the Beginnings – Identifying What Wasn’t Working

Acknowledging our stumbling blocks paved the way for setting things right. We re-evaluated our procedures, trimmed excesses, and most crucially, positioned capable and enthusiastic new leaders who were ready to steer the ship in the right direction. This restructuring was not just administrative, it represented a shift in our community culture – from complacency to proactive engagement!

Together, we have accomplished so much.  Over 656 homeowners pledged their signatures for change and our goals were met and exceeded!

As of July 2024,  the Board streamlined the invoicing approval processes, making them more transparent and efficient which should have been completed at the inception of the Power Ranch Board of Directors. We’ve tackled and completed projects that were long overdue during one meeting versus a year’s worth of meetings, improving not only the aesthetics of our surroundings but also the quality of life for our residents.  Board and Committee members are conducting inspections to keep management accountable. Each small victory has been a stepping stone towards a more engaged and responsive community.

Each individual’s contribution, no matter the size, has been indispensable. From those who voiced their concerns to those who led a committee, every effort has been a critical thread in the fabric of our success.

The Forging of New Friendships & Alliance of homeowners

Amidst the strategizing and implementation, something beautiful happened. We had a newfound opportunity to know each other better. Neighbors who had previously only shared a friendly nod were now working together, meeting each other for coffee, lunches, brainstorming, and solving problems as a unified team. In the trenches of transformation, we found not only solutions but also forged new and lasting friendships. These relationships have become the backbone of our community, making it stronger and more interconnected than ever before!

Gratitude For Every Contribution

This thank-you message would be incomplete without expressing our heartfelt gratitude to every community member who stepped up to contribute, offer feedback, or spread encouragement. Your involvement has been the key to our community’s success. A special and huge thank you goes to those unsung heroes who contributed their time, energy, and skills without expecting anything in return.

While we take immense pride in what we’ve accomplished together, we know that the process of improvement is ongoing; therefore, your continual support to stay current on matters within our community is of utmost importance.  We do not want to fall back into a place where we do not know what is happening in our own community.

In closing, this journey of change within our homeowners’ association has taught us valuable lessons in cooperation, communication, and community building. Thank you so much again to each one of you who has joined us on this path. Let’s continue to nurture the friendships we’ve forged and the proactive spirit we’ve cultivated to ensure our community not only grows but thrives!  I know I am personally looking toward that bright future!

Here’s to more achievements, more solutions, and more celebrations in our beautiful neighborhood!
